how to gain the most power from an NA
ok...so a lot of probationary drivers these days have been forced into purchasing a naturally aspirated car due to the power to weight restrictions that are enforced on young drivers. But young drivers still feel that they would like to hvae a little bit of extra grunt under the hood.
i have your solution
there are 3 key areas to target when modifying a NA car to see a difference in terms of gains in performance
the first thing you should look at is intake
every civic in the world has a POD filter. but most owners use it to have something nice to look at when popping the hood. Your use for it will be to increase the rate of which air it sucked into the intake manifold causing the ecu to compensate with extra fuel. This will then inturn cause the motor to combust at a faster pace and return a slight power gain.
Now to allow the pod filter to work at its best, you should start thinking about creating a Cold Air Intake sytem which is basically hosing or piping the feeds fast moving air hitting the front of your car up to the face of the pod filter. the goal of a cold air intake system is to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car for the purpose of increasing the power of the internal-combustion engine.
the second modification you should look at is a free flowing exhaust.
not just a fart cannon that you see every tom, dick and harry put on thier car...but a full system from the engine back.
exhaust gas is a by product of the combustion process that occurs within the engine. Motor vehicle manufacturers develop a cars stock exhaust system in order have the car comply with Noise and Decible regulations and emmisions standards.
these regulations and emmisions mean that a cars stock exhaust is usually extremly restrictive and small in diameter.
parts you will need are:
- After market/Custom fabricated exhaust manifold to suit your engine (aka headers)
- wider front pipe
- High Flow catalytic converter
- Wider mandrel bent piping cat back
- and after market muffler
This will allow your exhaust gasses to flow freely without being restricted and will show a dramatic increase in power...most cars can expect between 10-20 kws at the wheels with some forced induction cars gaining 20-30 kw
The third and final modification that will give you the maximum power output from your naturally aspirated car is a dyno tune. this is the process of taking you car to a dyno tuner who runs the vehicle on a dyno. this allows the tuner to reprogram your ecu to best suit your power requirments and gain the absolute maximum power output while being safe for the engine. this process also allows the dyno tuner to remove factory restrictions such as speed limiters and rev limiters
other than that...if you need more power your best bet would be to go for a motor with a larger displacement or more cylinders or to turbo/super charge your car.
cheers

yeah 10-20 for n/a cars is alot. esp if have never drive a turbz car youll notice the difference .

Re: how to gain the most power from an NA
doing cold air and exshast on my car saw a nice increase in power.
chopping spring = negative effect on power coz you have to drive slow.

man light weight under drive pulley OR a light weight fly wheel,
massive increase is the low range rpm. noticable difference.
